Frequently Asked

Questions

Why place a bolt action on an AR-15 or AR-10?

To put it simply : Accuracy, Modularity, and Familiarity.

With our 3 lug bolt, you get the consistent accuracy that you expect from a bolt action while keeping all of the ergonomics, controls and components of the AR as well as the linear recoil.
If you run suppressed, you don’t have to worry about tuning buffer weights and springs, gas block issues or blow back. There is no gas system, and it all goes down the pipe, so you don’t get gassed and can stay on target. In addition, you can always throw a semi auto upper back on when you want. Essentially, you can have two guns with one lower, unlike with a traditional bolt gun…you’ve got what you’ve got.

What is the difference between a UPR and a traditional bolt action?

For the same price as a UPR, you will not find the same level of craftsmanship and precision.

Consider a traditional, custom bolt-action rifle setup. The action alone could cost around $1,000, followed by a $600 stock, $250 bottom metal, and $60-$100 magazines, which are sometimes hard to find on the shelf at your local shop. Our system eliminates many of these additional costs. You already have your stock and trigger, saving you hundreds of dollars, and our uppers feed from inexpensive, easy to acquire, AR magazines.

Furthermore, you don’t need to rely on a gunsmith to change your barrel and re-headspace it. Our barrels attach and install just like a standard AR barrel, and don’t require any specialized tools. Give us a call and we can set you up with a replacement barrel that you can install yourself.

Our bolts and head spacing tolerances are extremely tight, ensuring compatibility between every bolt and barrel. If you ever lose your bolt or encounter any issues, don’t worry; we can send you a new one, and you’ll be back at the range in no time, no gunsmithing required.

What is the screw at the top of my Upper Receiver?

This adjustable, spring-loaded D-Tent is crucial for your Bolt. It serves the vital role of maintaining tension on the bolt, preventing it from flopping in and out of battery. Unlike a traditional bolt action, the UPR lacks tension from a firing pin spring, owing to its AR-15 platform.

Should I operate with a buffer and spring with a UPR?

You have the option to operate with or without the buffer and spring. At Uintah Precision, we typically operate without them, but we encourage you to conduct tests both with and without to determine which setup suits your preferences best.

Where are Uintah Precision products manufactured?

Do you manufacture your own action?

Yes, that’s precisely why UPR products stand out as unique. We take pride in designing, developing, and manufacturing our patented bolt actions. It is the only true 3-lug bolt action available in the world for the AR platform.

Can I purchase the bolt only without an action?

The 3-lug UP Bolt is exclusively compatible with a UPR action. If you desire to add a true bolt action to your arsenal, you must acquire either UPR upper or UPR complete rifle.

If you currently own a UPR and encounter any issues, rest assured that we can provide you with a new bolt with no gunsmithing required. Our commitment to maintaining very tight tolerances ensures that any bolt we manufacture remains compatible with any UPR upper.

Is the UPR a compliance AR-15 accessory?

Though our True Bolt Action AR uppers and rifles work well for those living in restricted states, they were designed with a focus on Precision, which is backed by our sub-MOA guarantee. We are not just producing a product for compliance. We are producing some of the most accurate uppers and rifles available.

What is the lead time?

Typically, our lead time is around 2 weeks. We take pride in maintaining a healthy inventory to minimize any long lead times for our valued customers. For a specific lead time, kindly refer to the product you are interested in.

How Accurate is the UPR?

Unleash the ultimate precision with our unwavering commitment – a guarantee that our rifles will achieve Sub-MOA accuracy with match-grade ammunition. Backed by our 30-day satisfaction. View the countless videos and reviews online achieving this result from the #UPR nation.

Can I use my own AR Barrel with a UPR?

No, the reason being is that a semi-automatic AR utilizes a 9-lug bolt pattern. Our UPR uses a 3-lug bolt pattern. In addition, a semi auto barrel has a hole drilled in it for the gas system. There is no gas system in our platform. Therefore, a standard AR barrel is not compatible.

Additional and replacement barrels can be ordered from us. Just shoot us an email or give us a call.

Our bolts and head spacing tolerances are extremely tight, ensuring compatibility between every bolt and barrel. If you ever lose your bolt or encounter any issues, don’t worry; we can send you a new one, and you’ll be back at the range in no time, no gunsmithing required. This also allows you to replace your own barrel with no issues.

Can I customize my order?

The short answer is a resounding yes. We offer many different barrel options, including fluting, as well as different stock and trigger options

Ammo and Accuracy

We can only guarantee Sub-MOA accuracy with the use of good quality, factory ammo. We highly recommend Hornady Match ammo.

We cannot not guarantee accuracy when using “hand-loads”…even if you’ve been reloading your entire life 😉

**Important: We advise against the use of Sellier & Bellot ammo!! DO NOT use it in your UP rifle or upper! We have found it to be dangerously inconsistent in regards to powder charges, with more than one instance of uppers being damaged/destroyed. We will not warranty any upper that is damaged from the use of handloads and/or Sellier & Bellot ammunition.
